Mallard on the WR in 1963
I recently found some archive footage on Youtube of Mallard visiting the WR in 1963, including running round its train in Temple Meads on Sunday March 17th.

For those of you who weren't there for any reason, it was bucketing down that morning (I was 10 at the time)!!

The Six Bells Junction website lists an itinerary for this special which is clearly incorrect (and they know it because they say "Route confirmation required") as: Southampton - Salisbury - Bristol - Swindon - Westbury - Melksham - Southampton.
60022 also ran a special on 24th February that year. The WR section of its itinerary was: Tiverton Junction - Taunton - Frome - Westbury - Newbury - Reading - Paddington.
So Melksham is certainly possible
