Dont remind me of that day first of all the trainman mr ali never turned up so I had to go with the train down to portbury for the run round then son jumps off the stairs and breaks his wrist so had to quickly dash from tm back to home and sort them lot out. Then the steamer couldnt make it the last few yards in to the quarry and I ended up on about 14 hrs

Cant understand why they loaded so heavy the line limit in steam days was 240tons for a class 5 loco and for a 5x 275tons, not sure what the loading was that day but 10 must be more than 275tons?. got some photos some where, might try and put them up if any-one wants to see them.

Dear All,

We are not going to be able to provided a Class 50 on both ends of this tour but are currently in talks to secure another desirable form of heritage traction for the other end.

Please be assured we'll let everyone know as soon as this has been finalized.

Hello to everyone who's sent us ú40 plus,

Just to let a few people know what is happening with this tour and answer a couple of questions posted here.

We aren't cashing the cheques until we know for sure what will be on each end. You wouldn't want to pay for a Vac and end up with a 47 or wagon would you. Cheques will be cashed shortly.

Throughout the whole experience we have had up to 5 possible loco combinations.

This is a one off charity event, we have spent a lot of time trying to organize this without the experience it has been a huge, and enjoyable, learning experience.

Negotiations have been long and drawn out as everything is being done through good will. We are now confident that we will have 50049 one end some coaches in the middle and 2 x Network Rail 31's at the other. I can't enfasise strongly enough how much of a one off this will be.

The start point now looks like being Bristol (another reason for holding back on the cheques) we have hit some problems with workings.

Timings are in the early stages so I have no definate times yet but will let everyone know when we do.

The intention is for the tour to start after the arrival of the first down Padd.

Thanks for your patience and look forward to seeing you all on the day.

We have set up an email address for querries at BristolCoalStoneHaul@networkrail.co.uk

Dear All,

Timings for the above are included.

Bristol TM 10:00am.
then again at Bristol TM at 10:56 to pick up after Portbury Branch.

Bath at 11:18

Bristol Parkway at 12:41

Next station stop is Gloucester 16:26 following the return from Westerleigh and Tytherington.

Arrives back at BTM at 18:45 followed by a slow crawl to Severn Beach and back which returns to BTM at 20:37 at the latest.

Tickets will be sent out Monday evening.

From this point onwards don't post anymore to the address but email and reserve at BristolCoalStoneHaul@networkrail.co.uk , then pay on the day.

There is a large non crank interest and we expect to be full but there are currently spaces avaliable. Please email and reserve if you still haven't booked.

Finally tour reps will be travelling on The Retro Retracer, Pathfinders Tour on Monday if you have booked with us and are travelling on this tour as well see our reps and we will be able to supply you with your tickets.

Cheers

This will be my first in 25-30 years or so. Should be a good one I think. (although I'm not sure about my ability to spend 10 hours on a train!)

I was going to book on this until I had to go to Hull.

10 hours on a train though makes me glad I didn't.

I thought it was going to be a quick tour of the Bristol branches, not an all dayer.

Anyway, good luck to those running it and/or on it. I hope it raises a lot of money.

In the Evening Post tonight...

YOUR CHANCE TO SEE HIDDEN RAIL GEMS

Train enthusiasts are being given a rare chance to see parts of the rail network around Bristol which have been closed to passenger trains for decades.A special train has been organised to take passengers on a day trip around lines which are usually only open to goods trains.......
