I notice they are thinking of putting a stop at the Portway Park and Ride (Good! Shall we call it West Town? No? ... M5 Bridge then?)

But at the possible expense of closing Shirehampton (Bad!)

How about a halt at the bottom of Sylvan Way?

No chance - sadly!

Question - Temple Meads - Clifton Down - Severn Beach line.

The article states that it was introduced on the above line in Winter '63/64 and was one of the earliest examples.

Now my memory may be faulty ...

I had a motorbike (Suzuki GT750) that was nicknamed a kettle - because in a time of mainly aircooled engines (1970's) it had a radiator and watercooling!

I quite liked the nickname and also do for steam engines.

Brought up in Shirehampton and have sinced lived near Filton, Avonmouth and now Sea Mills.

Depending on your house budget I would say the following:-

Sea Mills - near the Station is pleasant but pricey (residents call it Stoke Bishop!)
Sea Mills "proper" ranges from half a mile to a mile away from ...

That name rings a bell - I started off on the mail rounds and the guy in charge of production services was Terry Moule (superintendent) - sounds like your dad was his boss (in engineering dept?)

My Dad was Colin Gray - sadly passed away now - I'm sure your father would have known him - however he ...

Re: Industrial Locomotive Scene

My Dad was in charge of the locos at the smelting works at one stage - he was responsible for the change over from steam.

My Dad was at the smelting works from 1947 to 1983 - in later years he was stores/supplies superintendent.

I was there from 1978 to 1983 as ...

Shire et al

Hi Ray - I too lived in Shire and from 1966 to 1970 caught the dmu to Sea Mills to go to junior school.

On Saturdays my older bro and myself often went to Lawrence Hill to go to Max Williams' model railway shop and occasionally to Severn Beach with our bikes. (I still occasionally take my youngest ...

Industrial Locomotive Scene

What recollections have you of Industrial railways around Bristol?
Obviously there were the PBA locomotives and the 0-4-0 Sentinel diesel shunters at the "Smelting Works" in Avonmouth - any others?

ICI, Bristol Docks, etc?

I remember the smelting works had an 0-6-0 saddle tank on standby until at ...

No money in it though eh?

No freight on TM to Avonmouth/Severn Beach nowadays.
If you want to travel to Severn Beach by Train go on a Saturday as that is when there are thru' trains via Avonmouth. (certain workdays have through trains for commuters at commuting times too.)

Welcome aboard -if you're able then take the train to or from Severn Beach one Saturday. It's an interesting run including Avonmouth, the lower part of the Avon River, Clifton and the inner city of Bristol.
