Man's body found by railway line

The body of an unidentified "mystery man" has been discovered near a railway line in Bristol.

Officers have appealed for help to identify the man, who was found dead close to the tracks at Patchway in the early hours of Friday.

They said they were keeping an open mind about the circumstances leading to his death until tests were carried out.

The man was described white, aged between 50 and 60, with short light brown but greying hair.

Police said he had an old operation scar on his abdomen.

He was wearing blue denim jeans, a chequered red, white and green short-sleeved shirt and brown coloured shoes when he was found.

Police believe a men's blue and white racing bike, with dropped handlebars and a white seat, that was found near the scene, may have belonged to him.

Acting Inspector Jon Rawson of British Transport Police said: "Officers are seeking any information or witnesses to the incident and are appealing to the community to help identify the man, so that his relatives can be informed."
