More (out of area) photos

I've put up some pictures of South Wales in the 70's at http://andy-kirkham.fotopic.net/c900409.html . Strictly speaking they're out-of-area for this forum, but it's a neighbouring area, so I think you may find them worth a look.

Excellent photos Andy -as always.

What's the story behind these trips to Wales?

Small gripe: can you edit your posting to remove the full stop from the end of the hyperlink as it wont work with the fullstop there.

Thank you!

I was attracted by the dramatic landscapes of the Valleys and the fact that it seemed almost like a foreign country. Plus there were bags of loco-hauled freight and even a few steam locos at the collieries.

With photography in mind I wrote to the BR Public Relations office at Cardiff to enquire about train times on the Taff Bargoed line. To my amazement they replied by sending me an application form for a brake van trip! The fee was calculated as the first class fare for the mileage.

Oops! Is it possible to edit a post once it's been made? I'll gladly do it if I can.

hadn't seen your welsh steam shots til tonight.

Great photos, really capture the atmosphere of the railways in those days.

Thank you Simon - yours are very nice too. I'm pretty certain the big saddle tank is at Maerdy, not Maesteg. It was quite famous for being the biggest loco Pecket's ever built. As I added to the description of my Maerdy photo, I went there hoping to see that loco in action but was disappointed.
