Western region rather than Bristol too:
"Early in the past summer, when the turntable at Penzance was under repair, passenger services between Truro and Penzance were worked by 2-6-2 tank engines. Tender engines hauled the trains east of Truro. To meet this emergency, nearly twenty tank engines were sent to West Cornwall from depots as far afield as Worcester, Birmingham and Gloucester.
Many of the trains were of substantial weight, and the Cornish Riviera Express, the Cornishman and the night trains to and from Paddington were double headed.
The tank engines did not carry the usual headboards when working the named expresses. Good traffic continued to be hauled by tender engines, which worked chimney-first from Penzance to Truro. Three locomotives (a Hall and two Granges) were retained at Penzance for these duties.
Other tender engines from that depot were sent to work elsewhere, except for those undergoing repairs."
