Discovered a real treat a few days ago: One of the original gas lamp posts from Ashley Hill station, complete with GWR etched glass with station name and logos!
How come? Well, a friend of mine who sadly died recently was an ex-BR civil engineer. I was round at his place to look at some stuff his wife thought I might like and there, in the garden, was the said lamp post in all its glory! She said he bought it for 5 bob years ago and put it up in the garden and there it still is. Converted to electric, but otherwise completely original.
I reckon it was removed from Ashley Hill in the late 50's when electric lights were installed (see Various old pics of Ashley Hill).
Pics will be taken for the site next time I visit!
