NEW RAIL AND BUS LINK TO SLIMBRIDGE AND WESTONBIRT

30 July 2005

A BUS link is being launched from Cam and Dursley railway station on Sundays to tourist attractions in the West thanks to a successful grant bid. The Severnside Community Rail Partnership has been successful in gaining funding from the Gloucestershire Rural Renaissance Initiative which is managed by Gloucestershire First and supported by the South West of England Regional Development Agency,

Two buses will be funded by the project and they will meet the train services at Cam & Dursley station on Sundays from August 7 to December 11. One bus will take passengers to Slimbridge and Berkeley, while the other will make stops in Cam, Dursley, Tetbury and then at Westonbirt.

The project aims to encourage car-free days out.

Jade West, Severnside rail partnership officer, said: "We are delighted that this project has been accepted for funding. We have worked closely with the local attractions involved and they are fully supporting this rail/bus link by offering a discount of up to 50 per cent on admission prices for people choosing the car-free option.

"We are also pleased that Wessex Trains is now operating a train service that stops at Cam & Dursley station on a Sunday, making the rail-bus link possible."
