Freight trains inside Bristol Old Station

Post by stumpytrain »

I've just been studying some old train registers I have from Bristol Old Station box and I spotted an interesting move "No.5 3" in the 1950s that can be seen on this page...
http://www.alextrack.co.uk/railways/sig ... -005.shtml

To translate, we can see on the down page at 0234 Bristol Old Station gave line clear to Bristol East for "No.5 3" (3= ordinary freight mineral or ballast train stopping at local stations) on Platform 12, entering section was received at the same time 0234, and the signalman booked the train arriving at 0237.

Over on the up side page we can see line clear for "No5 L.Eng 2-3" to use the middle line was requested from Bristol East and acknowledged at 0239, entering section sent at 0239 and out of section received at 0241.

Back over on the down train page we can then see 5-2 (train clear of section) is received at 0243.

So, assuming "No.5" refers to the No.5 Freight Trip it appears to have popped in to Bristol Old Station Platform 12, presumably running round before propelling in to Bristol Goods!

Fascinating eh?
