Freight trains along the Portishead branch

Post by RobinW1966 »

Hi, can anyone tell me how often freightliner trains pass along the Avon Gorge on the currently used portion of the Portishead branch? I have to get some photos for an article I am writing and so I need to know when to go down there in order to get some good pictures. Failing that, who would I have to contact to find out?

Cheers

You will need to be up early as currently they run from around midnight to the last one leaving 10:50. The other departure slots for them are 06:55 08:30. DBS will continue running the 6E86 Ferrybridge service untill the end of the month then this switchs to Avonmouth Bulk Hnadling Terminal.

Is that to do with Didcot Power Station shutting down?

Partly yes. The ferrybridge contract comes to and end and Eon have purchased coal that was bound for Didcot to go to Rugley instead but this is just a short term contract. There are more trains for Aberthaw planned to run out of Avonmouth as Newport docks cant handle the extra traffic.
