Stamp of approval for railway anniversary

The Avon Valley Railway Heritage Trust is gearing up to commemorate the first of two important anniversaries during 2011.

To mark the event a limited edition Commemorative Stamp Cover is being produced by Buckingham Covers Limited. To add to the occasion the covers will be carried on the steam engine depicted on the cover, RSH No. 7151, on the 6th March and will then be available to purchase from the station from noon onwards.

Volunteer Open Day - Sunday 10th April

The Avon Valley Railway is holding its annual Volunteer Open Day to give members of the public, and enthusiasts alike, the chance to see behind the scenes and see how they could get involved volunteering on their Railway.

Throughout the day, current volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and talk to anyone who wants to know more. Display stands will be put up around the Station offering more information on each department and a slideshow will track the RailwayÆs progress over the years.

Guided tours will be conducted at regular times, including a tour of the Goods Shed and yard which is usually out of bounds for members of the public. For those who want to learn more, why not hop on the train and have a guided tour of the line explaining how the line has been built so far and what the plans are for the future.

The event will run between 10am and 4pm

More information to be provided soon!

ú10 Driver Experience

To complement the Open Day we will be offering a series of ú10 Driver Experiences throughout the day, driving RSH No. 7151

The experience will consist of a safety briefing, an introduction to the locomotive and one trip on the locomotiveÆs footplate from the station platform to the end of Signal Box Siding and back, a distance of approximately 500 yards.

At the end of the course he will receive a commemorative certificate signed by the instructors.

For more information and to book please call 0117 932 5538.

Update 19 April 2011

Post by john2006 »

Steam trains are operating every day from today until Monday 25th April.

On Sunday 24th and Monday 25th April we will be operating with two trains. The usual steam service will be complimented by the DMU operating a regular timetabled service too.

The usual fares of Adult ú6.50, Concession ú5.50, Children ú5.00 and Family ú18.00 will give you unlimited travel on both the steam and DMU service.

I will try and get a timetable posted before, if not, one will be available on the day.

As the weather is supposed to be nice, why not come along and enjoy a ride. Perhaps grab something to eat from the Buffet or go for a picnic by the river?

If anyone visited us while two trains ran last weekend, please let us know what you thought (PM or via this board). We are currently looking at the two train timetable to see if it can be improved further. Our next two train running day is Monday 30th May

In the meantime, our locomotive roster has been updated and now covers 1st May to 29th June. You can find it here... http://www.avonvalleyrailway.org/events ... ster_6.pdf

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been trying to get an update from our Chairman. We are currently in the process of appointing/allowing to settle in new Trustees and Directors, one of which will be responsible for overseeing the extension project so things are fairly vague until they settle in.

I hope to keep you up to date with any future developments but in the meantime this is what our Chairman, Bob Hitchings has to say:

"The Avon Valley Railway Heritage Trust will maintain a dialogue with all relevant authorities and involved or interested parties, regarding the extension of the Railway beyond Avon Riverside.

The Trust is always keen to hear from any group or individual who may require information, clarification or wishes to be kept informed of developments.

The Trust will ensure that any extension of the Railway will be viable and sustainable."
