This is the original forum of the Bristol Railway Archive that existed between 2003 and 2013. I finally rescued it after it seemed unrecoverable after a large crash. I have made it available for viewing. It is locked, all posts to the new version please!
Use this forum to talk about the railways in and around Bristol, or for any off-topic stuff you want to share. Also request photos and information that you are missing.
I have recently seen a photo of an oil tanker train travelling to the Westerleigh Oil Treminal from Milford Haven up the western side of the Severn Estuary, presumably by the long way round through Gloster. Are dangerous goods banned from travelling via the tunnel, or is because the South Wales line is to busy with passnger traffic
its probalbly due to the westrerleigh connection being trailing from the gwml so via glos to avoid running round at yate, any way i'm not sure the loop is long enough for the longer trains at yate anymore!
Dangerous goods are permitted through the tunnel as the theale oil train runs through the tunnel as do various other trains carrying dangerous goods. The reason the Westerleigh train goes up via chepstow is because its too long to run round at yate.
