JOE STRUMMER is to have the most unlikely of tributes to him - a locomotive
named in his honour.
The train, simply named Joe Strummer, will be unveiled on February 12 at
Bristol Temple Meads station in recognition of the late Clash singer.
Strummer died in December 2002, aged 50.
The locomotive is a Class 47 diesel, a designed in 1962 and after being
named, will work in East Anglia.

I won't be there for this unfortunately, I've got to work. 
Joe Strummer is one of the few 'rock stars' I've met who was actually a really decent bloke, it's a nice touch by whoever thought of naming a train after him.
Actually, just looking at the timings and I notice it's going to go really close to my shop. Cheltenham Road arches at 20 past two.... hmmm.... maybe I'll 'pop out to buy some dinner' around about then

I met him many years ago in a club called The Dug Out. It was when they'd just replaced Mick on guitar with two Bristol lads and they were all in town pre-tour to sample the delights. I went up to him to try to blag the support tour (I was horrendously drunk!) and when he asked my name I though he meant the bands name which was Mr Rat. He then spent the next few hours introducing me to all and sundry as Mr Rat! (even though he'd learnt my real name immediatedly after my slip-up). 47828. I'm not actually sure what livery this carries at the mo. Last seen in Virgin, but I would imagine it's been repainted if it's being named. I would guess in that Anglia One blue scheme if that's where it's headed afterwards.James wrote:
