5029 Nunney Castle Bristol-Shrewsbury Sat 29th Nov

Post by mow »

5029 Nunney Castle is picking up a tour from London, to run up Filton Bank and on to Shrewsbury next Saturday morning.

UK Steam has details of the Light Engine Move on Friday.

http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t08/t1128q.htm

The tour to Shrewsbury is on this link. Departure from Bristol Temple Meads at 9.32. Will the Castle be waiting at Temple Meads when the train comes in from London at 9.07?

Thanks for the tip :) I'd missed that one. Will try to catch it at Narroways Hill.

What a disappointment, it seemed to come in over the loop, reversed to N Somerset Junction, to the point that you could just see the rear of the service coach, and then headed off again in the Filton direction. It never actually made it to BTM after all....would have cheered up a dull Friday afternoon !

A couple of photos of 5029 climbing Filton bank, with a load of 12 it was a bit of a slog.

Nice photos, especially considering how gloomy it was!

I was delivering mail on Kennington Ave and heard her go up the hill, sounded like a bit of a struggle, she seemed to be crawling by the time she got to the top. Looking down the avenue revealed a huge cloud of smoke blocking the view towards Lockleaze! Unfortunately, although the sound travelled well, the smell didn't. Wish I could have gone and seen this.

Pilning from the driver's side.

It ain't half cold there. The engine slowed down as it reached the station, I didn't realise that there was a red light. I took these from the remains of the bay platform.

Mike

If I knew that was you I would have said hello...you were stood over by the new mast in the car park weren't you?

And can also confirm it was a bit bracing!

I've always said Pilning has it's own climate.....

It was so bracing that several brass monkeys were looking very, very worried.

I too should have said hello - I did wonder if you had turned up at Pilning. Had read on the Nat Preservation site that there was a problem at Ludlow.

Nothing serious I hope...I was wondering if 6024 doesnt make the repairs in time for next weekend, that Nunny Castle will be doing the run to Torbay? :?: :?: :?:

One poster on Nat Pres suggested that Nunney Castle was at Shrewsbury and will be towed back to Bristol, it may be a rumour rather than fact. Other posts suggested that the problem was related to the air compressor.
