Keynsham and Oldfield Park to become staffed stations?

Post by James »

Just spotted on FGW's jobs page:

http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/JobList.aspx
Customer Sales Assistant Fixed Term Part Time
Closing date: 28 November 2008 at 17:00
Location: Keynsham (ref: CSS09)
Oldfield (ref CSS08)
Salary: ú18,646 pro rata.
Term: Fixed Term Part Time

Working at a Suburban station you will be the face of First Great Western. Duties will include issuing tickets and assisting customers with their travel enquiries. The successful candidate will be of smart appearance with good communication skills. Experience of cash handling in a customer - orientated environment would be an advantage although not essential, as full training will be given.

You should also be able to cope well under pressure and have excellent customer service skills. You must be physically fit, as your duties will also require you to carry out salting of the platforms, when necessary. The shifts will be on a part time Monday û Friday basis.
I wonder if that little pink box at Keynsham is going to reopen, or if FGW will provide slightly better facilities? Is there anything like that at Oldfield Park?

That would be fantastic news! It certainly suggests that's what's going to happen. Alex

Knowing FGW, these are posts created to protect revenue. The trains are so packed that the conductors can't get through to issue tickets.
Years ago BR rostered passenger guards to man the hut at Keynsham and sell tickets in the morning rush hour. I did the job many times in the mid-eighties and often paid in over ú500, not a bad sum considering it was over twenty years ago.
Passenger guards also manned Nailsea & Backwell in the morning rush hour and Avonmouth in the afternoon peak. Happy days.....
