Class 47, two blue vans and barbie carriages at BTM

Post by mow »

When I was at Temple Meads at lunchtime, I saw a Class 47, with a couple of vans, and refurbished carriages. I have posted four pictures, one of which is linked below. Does anyone else know any more on this?

All I know is that North Star has been a frequent visitor to Bristol in the last couple of months moving FGW refurbed stock to Laira from Derby I think? Missed it last month travelling through FAW :(

North Star

Post by jules »

The various 47's are all being used for moves as part of FGW's HST refurbishment program. They have been short on 57's, but now have some back in service so there probably won't be so much work by 47's.

You won't be seeing North Star soon again as she has been bought by the D&EPG at Williton (of which I am Tresurer) and has now gone back to Brush for repaint into full two tone green original livery.

Her last mainline duty will be on Monday 28th May on a Heartland Rail charter from Derby to Minehead. On arrival at MD (1430), there will be an official handover of 47840 to D&EPG and she will enter full-time retirement working on The West Somerset and will be based at Williton Diesel Depot (WN) - Not to be confused with the other WN!

The charter will return to Derby with 'Peak' 45112. Tickets available from:

www.heartlandrail.co.uk

but selling fast so I am told .... Expected timings below ...

Derby 08:10 23:25
Birmingham New Street 09:10 22:35
Cheltenham Spa 10:05 21:20
Cam & Dursley 10:40 20:45
Yate 11:05 20:30
Minehead 14:00 17:30
