Gareth Philips, Planning and property manager at SITA UK justifies this location thus ;
"A key feature of the Severnside site is its access to good transport links. This enables the operational and construction traffic to use the motorway and trunk road network when accessing the site. The site also includes an existing rail head to which we have unrestricted access. The presence of this rail head was a major factor influencing our decision to develop this site, as reconnecting it to the existing Severn Beach line would allow us to use rail as an alternative to road transport "
All sounds very nice to me, the return of run-round freight at Severn Beach, just imagine. It appears to have been a "major" factor in its considerations, so should it be built, we'd expect the rail link to be a priority, time will tell.
The line from ICI to Severn Beach was lifted almost a year ago, so maybe we're closer to finding out why.
I'm not following this development much so I'll pass on their web address. severnside-consultation.co.uk.
Merry Christmas
