I was just about to ask the same question :)

I'm guessing that they'll probably redevelop St Phillips Marsh rather than buy back Bath Road (I think this is owned by the SW regional development authority now - for the proposed arena?).

I'm not really sure why they are building the other WR IEP depot in Reading rather than Old Oak/Northpole though. Reading makes more sense for Crossrail and Old Oak makes more sense for IEP but they've got it the other way around so that both types will be makings ECS runs along the most congested section of the GWML.

I keep hearing stories about Filton Tip being used as the new depot but that seems like a very strange location to me.

With regards to London I agree with WR Tim that the depots in London do seem to be arse about face!

In Bristol I would have thought a depot in the West Depot area would be best. Mainly as there would be hardly any changing ends required on sets coming from and going to the depot.

The latest edition of rail express magazine states the new Bristol depot will be built at Bristol Parkway

Why do they need an all-new depot? Surely if the HSTs are being replaced then St Philips Marsh could be easily redeveloped to service the new fleet?

St. Phillips Marsh is chocca block with not enough room for the HST sets that go round there as it is. There is also little room for expansion of the DMU fleet, which one would assume would stay at St. Phillips Marsh when the HSTs leave.

I just wish they'd go for West Depot rather than Filton Tip!

What i cannot understand about putting it a Filton is the extra usage it will put on Filton bank, that line is already at capacity and beyond without adding empty trains running up and down it every day.
Are they going to replace the lost tracks on Filton bank to cope??
