Aerial Picture of Temple Meads 1935

Post by science »

If you haven't seen it, there's an aerial picture of Temple Meads from 1935 in the latest issue of Rail.

Weblink as follows:

Quite an impressive expanse of Railway that's been lost.

The triple track bridge over Victoria street heading for redcliffe tunnel can be seen bottom left. Temple Meads was the largest covered goods shed in the world when rebuilt in 1924. Middle left, the midland covered barge dock and sidings at avon street. Background, left to right we have Bristol St Phillips goods shed, bombed 1940 and hiding the passenger station behind. We then have midland road goods yard, the extant humpback over the avon street lines and barrow road gasholders, hiding the engine sheds. To the left of the gasholders is barrow rd carriage shed and cattle pens, with barrow road bridge beyond. Far right is the midland mainline, barton hill wagon works then the huge north and south carriage sidings, with a filton bound train just visible on the 4 track section far right. Temple meads east power box is hidden by the up train on the station throat.

Google Sketchup, 3D creation for all ! precisely rebuild a demolished station with photo textures, walk through it, even export it to pc train sims!
