This is the original forum of the Bristol Railway Archive that existed between 2003 and 2013. I finally rescued it after it seemed unrecoverable after a large crash. I have made it available for viewing. It is locked, all posts to the new version please!
Now dont say you didn't know it was going to happen. Get your camera out work out how to make a spot on that bridge, put the ladder against the back fence and get photographs please, lots of them Get yourself a flickr account which for 200 photos is free and post away. I am sure there are loads of us in here that would be over the moon at you doing that.
Just one word though, i don't want to read in the paper that some dirty old man was found on Charfield bridge roaming around in his pyjamas and using a camera flashing at the workers below.
Ok not old then, but still don't get caught flashing!!
Now if i remember rightly on the corner of the bridge against the garden of 50 longs view is a gap in the hedge between the bridge abutment and the fence that one can get through to see the down switches, how do i know that well that would be telling
You will of course need a bramble proof jacket for that one. Tell you what shall i write a full specification for these shots!!!!!!!!!!!
I will get some shots, what ever happens, it will be interesting to see just what they replace as the down loop is not in very good nick with old bullhead rail and bitzza track some 60ft and some 20, and 30ft lengths, whereas the up loop has fb rail most in long lenths, I will have to have a word with the workmen too as i want a short 10" lenth of Fb rail for an anvil as mine got lost in the house move!!
Early sunday morning last ,woke up to bright lights and a genny running, had a look over the bridge and some rail has been left in the 4 foot on the up line, so they have started dropping off bits and bobs already. Photos to follow.
After having a chat with one of the work men, in the compound for the site, i now know that work to remove and re-install the down loop exit point will take place next saturday 13th september, they get possesion of the line at about 12 noon, the point is coming by train from berkely road junction where it is being fabricated, as there is no room at charfield for this work to be carried out. I will be at the bridge to get some shots of work-in-progress.
Not sure how long the line is out or if single line working is taking place can any one answer this Alex Maybe?.
Also was at yate the other day and there seems to be a lot of engineering going on there any one know what?.
