Wessex Trains Two For One Offer

Post by madhattie »

There's a two for one offer in tonight's (18.1.05) Bristol Evening Post.

You have to collect two out of three vouchers being printed between the 18-20th January and these can be used in conjunction with a bought ticket between any two stations in the Wessex Trains network.

Travel must take place and be completed by March 24th 2005.

You can also use rail services provided by First Great Western, Virgin Trains, Arriva Trains Wales and South West Trains for travel in the WT area.

I got the most out of mine....a trip from Taunton to Romsey and back...with a visit to the Mid Hants Railway in the middle somewhere :D

Just to let you know it's also currently in the Bath Chronicle, and has also been in the Western Daily Press :)

Also to note: Not sure if this applies in the Bath Chron and Western Daily only, but only Cheap Day Returns and Savers are 2 for 1!

I've collected 10 vouchers, so my friend and I will be going to:
Penzance,
Great Malvern,
Cardiff Central,
Weymouth (or Portsmouth Harbour, or both if we can get another 2!)
and, of course, Severn Beach! ;)

It's great to finally explore the region - I've only been as far as Clifton Down on the Severn Beach line, Weston super Mare/Newport west, Trowbridge south and Cheltenham Spa north!

EDIT: This reminds me, I'll be going to Cardiff Bay a week weds and taking my digi cam, so if any pics are needed...!

Is the old Bute Road (Cardiff Bay) station building still there? When I visited in 96 the western edge of the platform was used by trains and the fenced off eastern edge and the station building were home to the Butetown Historic Railway Society (and the Barry 10), who were thrown out out by the council despite having spent a lot of money restoring the building...once again "progress" leaves no room for heritage.

At least they found a new home: Barry Island station.

Just one platform on Cardiff Bay, there didn't seem to be anything behind the fence except overgrown brambles and stuff. Got a pic with 143607!

I've got a few more of Cardiff Bay, Cardiff Queen Street, Cardiff Central and Newport if anyone's interested, plus a few of Bristol Parkway, BTM, and Bath Spa if anyone wants to see those or use 'em for the site! :)

Cardiff Bay's one of the smallest stations I've seen, yet there seems to be plenty of passengers and services - at least one every 10 minutes at peak times...it also has one of those scrolling LED depatrure boards you only normally see in big stations (Sorry for going so off topic btw!)

EDIT: I don't recall the Bute Road building being there, I'm pretty sure that was bulldozed for the redevelopment of the bay (and station). Everything just seems so futuristic there: Giant metal obelisks with water running down the side, huge, unusual steel office buildings, glass panelled skyscrapers, boardwalks...!

Ugh...I'm never going back there then. When I went there was plenty of atmosphere and history left. I can't wait until the "futuristic" crap is bulldozed...in fact, I'd go back on what I said before and make an effort to be there to witness it!

Yes Please! I desperately need more pics of Parkway (I have some I've not processed yet, but need more), and I have a plan to add Cardiff area stations to the website. In fact I've got about 60 or so pics from Cardiff although most of them are bugs, including 143607

Did you go in the tube-like visitor centre? The last time I was there they had a really nice map/model of the whole cardiff area that I found fascinating.

Pics are gone...they might be up on the main site soon though! (I hope!)

Sadly, my friends weren't too interested in the visitor centre and instead rushed towards TechniQuest and Cadwalader's ice cream restaraunt... I'll take a look next time, though!

No problem! Those post office veichles have been there for what seems like ages now...
Could you let me know when you've saved the pics? They're using up a lot of bandwidth back on the site!

I've saved them here, but if you could not delete them until tomorrow I can save them again in work :)

Hi Graham,

I've tried emailing you a couple of times but I keep getting my mail returned as undeliverable. I need your surname so that I can credit you properly for the pics! 8)
