Ticket only apparently. You could try giving them a ring rather than relying on ye olde web.

I shall probably watch the train climbing Filton Bank. Should be making a right old racket by then so I might take the video rather than the camera 8)

So is the connection to Avonmouth via Clifton Down (as per madhattie) or via Hallen etc?

Out one way, back the other, right? It's a big loop :)

The train will now go as per the second set of timings, ie. both ways via Filton Abbey Wood.

I believe Clifton Down is closed for engineering although I've not seen confirmation of this.

Silly me, the line is being used for diversions again over Easter while the mainline is closed.

I sampled the diversions today - chance to do the Henbury loop took priority over another visit to West Somerset.

Clifton Down is a lovely old station, but shame about the pub - as soon as I pulled out my camera I was surrounded by jeering morons. Its a bit fascist the way the brits can't stand anyone with interests other than getting drunk and laughing at someone on his own.

Another idiot near Bedminster throwing a stone at the train I was on didn't improve my impression of the city either.

However, shall probably return on Monday - looks like chimney first on the way back from Portbury on the afternoon trip, then round the loop to facew south again for the Taunton run.

Yeah it's pathetic, THEY'RE pathetic, but look at it this way: when their brains and bodies rot away as the alcohol destroys them and leaves them as shaking, mentally incapacitated wrecks, waiting in the "scrap-line" for a liver transplant to prolong an already worthless, pointless, existence, you'll still be healthy and intelligent...THEN who will be laughing?

p.s. you're on the WSR Topica list too aren't you :)

That's true enough - just a pity that people like me will have to pay for their liver transplants. Should prefer my taxes to be spent on restoring passenger trains to Portishead!

Yes I am on WSR topica list - living in Cornwall it's nice to keep up with things, and this is the most effective way.

Less of that thank you! Profanities may only be uttered when the target is a Voyager, Adelante, or Pacer :P

You are right. My apologies.

I first saw a HST in 1976/77 (canÆt remember which). I was walking across Parson Street Bridge with my mum and saw a HST appear from around the bend at the far end of the Freightliner Depot.

I ran down the steps to platform 1 and watched in awe as it approached and then thundered past. Magnificent! Loved them ever since.

Is it me or did they have a distinctive bouquet back them; kinda sweet?
