Engineering Work at FAW?

Post by Rich_Eason »

I've just walked home from work through FAW and down towards the car park where there was a load of NR bods supervising (not very well some breaches of H&S  - another story) a lorry mounted Hyab off loading what appeared to be a number of turnout parts, including crossing vee etc.

Over the last week I noticed what appeared to be a temp speed restriction has been placed on the South Wales to Bristol crossover just off the station so looks like this is in for renewal.

The rail is currently stored behind the fence adjacent to the "newer" South Wales line, not the stuff thats been piled up for ages.

Anyone got anymore gen? In quite a nice spot to have nose when they do it.

Hopefully stumpytrain will have the gen. If I was to take a guess I would say this is related to the HST incident posted on here a few weeks back? Something happened that day that damaged the crossover, hence the repair. The crossover itself isn't very old. It was put in place when the third platform went in.

As I say though, just a guess!

I'd take a guess at the work being done overnight on Sat 22/12, or Saturday 12 Jan ...

We have a 20mph EROS (Emergency Restriction of Speed) due to a defective nose in a crossover at Filton Abbey Wood. It affects trains coming from the Filton Chord / Patchway going towards Bristol and trains reversing from the Down Filton going towards the Filton Chord / Patchway. I assume that this one has arrived to make a replacement...

The incident with the HST was entirely separate and not related to this EROS.

Cheers,
Alex

Apologies for bumping this up again...

The same piece of track...the cross over from the SW to Bristol Line prior to FAW.

Tues, Wednesday night I saw 66's negotiating the crossing at walking pace and in both occasions once the loco had cleared the crossing accelerated away with ballast train in tow. (Tues Railtrack Autobalasters/ Wed MHA's etc)

Tonight, again I have seen a 158 crawling over the A4174 Link Road Bridge in preparation of the crossing at a slower than walking pace.

6months on from the OP...is the crossing still defective?

Separate rail defect on one of the crossings so there's a 5 mph emergency speed restriction over it pending replacement. It's been linespeed in that area for a number of months until now.
