Cranmore 150

Post by nickt »

The East Somerset Railway are celebrating their 150 aniversary this weekend 21 / 22. Shuttle trains will work from Westbury to Cranmore Station and transfer by vintage bus to Tor Works ( Foster Yeoman ) Merehead.
We will be featuring steam engines Black Prince 92203 S160 ( from Churnet Valley ) and others plus various diesels will be on display, driver for a fiver quarry tours and much more.
Also you will be able to travel over East Somerset Line and have a look in the workshops and see 5637 undergoing 10year overhaul.
The rail shuttle is operated by Pathfinder, it will leave westbury travel via frome (almost certainly) and on to Witham Friary where it will leave the main line and travel up the north somerset branch ( used by stone trains only) and on to Cranmore.
Will be good days out.
Full details and car parking and prices, visit East Somerset Railway website.

Lots of information here:

http://eastsomersetrailway.co.uk/newsitem.php?item=229

ú15 ticket includes a return trip on the Westbury shuttle, one on the ESR's steam service, the classic bus shuttle to the quarry, tours around the quarry itself, and entry to the quarry for all the rail activity, with visiting locos, steam on heavy stone trains, displays and stalls etc etc etc! Bargain!
