This is the original forum of the Bristol Railway Archive that existed between 2003 and 2013. I finally rescued it after it seemed unrecoverable after a large crash. I have made it available for viewing. It is locked, all posts to the new version please!
Use this forum to talk about the railways in and around Bristol, or for any off-topic stuff you want to share. Also request photos and information that you are missing.
Wonder if anyone has more information on the timings and exact routes which will be used during the works at Filton?
Whilst I'm concerned that this will hit the Severn Beach line hard, it may be a rare chance to get a ride via Hallen, and could certainly aid calls for opening this line to passenger services (which after all passes very close to The Mall).
What I want to know is why they closed the short section north of Severn Beach that linked in with the main line? I'm sure a circular service round the loop would have made much more sense than the back and forth truncated service now provided. Patchway, Filton, and with a change of ends maybe even Bristol Parkway could have been served, making it more viable perhaps?
I think they closed the Severn Beach - Pilning link in 65 or 66 during a signalmen's strike and never re-opened it - especially as the whole Severn Beach branch was soon to be reduced to single line and signal boxes from and including Shirehampton to Temple Meads were shut as modernisation came in
