Dartmouth Express according to the UK Steam site is now being hauled by Princess Elizabeth on the 29th of March.

Hoping the weather is going to hold out...I was thinking of trying the level crossing just after Yatton station to see what pics can get from there...has anyone tried the spot? Is it worth it?

Was in Bath whilst my better half was enjoying a shopping trip, and only just managed to take a couple of passing shots.

The engine arrived about 20 minutes earlier than expected, so I had little time to check the camera settings or pick a place to stand.

6201 Failed at Exeter on the return leg. NOT returning tonight..."fire aparently not performing"... rescue loco on its way...

The train was on time when it arrived at Exeter on the return leg. It was watered, then we sat there.....later an announcement was made that the traction inspector would not allow the engine to return to Bristol unassisted. The the various rumours then went round, poor coal, poor firebox, wet rails....I'm sure some one will know the correct reason.

The diesel 67 021 had to come down from Bristol. Now, it would have made sense to have a standbye engine at Exeter, but not these days eh!
It was coupled up to Princess Elizabeth and then double headed back to BTM.

When the train arrived at Paignton on the outward journey Dart Rail insisted that a banker was provided, in the shape of a class 25. So all in all, a good day for diesel haulage!!!

To be fair, the run down from Bristol to Paignton was quite good, despite the wet and windy weather, but not a brilliant start to the Dartmouth season.

A very credible source reported that there was nothing wrong with loco or coal.

The latest news seems to be (i.e. authenticity yet to be verified) that the newly-qualified EWS fireman had never fired a wide-firebox locomotive before and couldn't cope.
