Disused platform at temple meads

I noticed there is a disused platform at temple meads as you are coming into temple meads on the train from bedminster looking on the left there is a short siding platform which looks like it has not been resurfaced for a long time. What was it used for? When was it closed?

I think what you were looking at was the old fish-dock If you saw the film
The Titfield thunderbolt you will see it as there main station "can't remember the name they called it now"
but that was 1952

As you come in too temple meads the platforms are called platform 2 ,parcel dock both of these were used for the motorrail when it ran.Then the short platform was called the fish dock or horse box road.

That's interesting, does anyone know when was it last used? Also, when you come into temple meads from Bath, if you look to the right there are some small red brick buildings which looks like they have small platforms and were used for something in the past by now have cars parked next to them etc does anyone know what these are?

Platfrom 2 and the fish dock were mainly used in recent times for the res traffic and storage of vans.After the end of those days regional railways started to stable their units in platform 2 with tampers in the fish dock.

Hi, not sure but do you mean the small huts after you pass Dr Days and come under spine road. If yes then there is a Network Rail depot behind huts which is fairly visible from spine road (looks larger from above than it does when passing on train). I am not sure of their original purpose. I am sure some one of our members may be able to enlighten us.

Could you mean this? ( 5th and 6th pictures down )

The buildings referred to were the S&T DEPOT.in pre BR days and up to when the railway was destroyed in 1996,after a bunch of amateurs now installed called ???/.Going back to the upside dock it was also used for the vans required for the xmas post,the fish dock was on down side of the in engine line to the shed . The down side pilot in the steam days was generally the locos used at YATTON forinstance like no"s 1402 1412 1415 1430 1454 and last the best one 1463.there was also 2 non auto locos no"5403, 5409.By the way my very first turn at Bath Rd was on the up side pilot number one as there were 2 pilots on nights 10/00pm until 6/00am on a class 55xx when both lots of the up side sidings wre fully used.that was January 1950!

sorry the numbers for the non auto locos should have been .5804 & 5809 thats according to my better typing lol
