Post by mangotsfield_mauler »

Instead of an arena/development thing, can we have this instead?

Motion seconded and carried-probably cheaper than the arena as well.....still would have been nice to have walked 10 mins from my house to see some decent big bands-what about model railway shows-bring tem back to bristol now the old station's going to be empty.

Very nice shot of Bath Rd Coal road, Haven't seen it like that since about
1959/60 that takes me back to beeing a young fireman again. Those days were so rich in my memory
If only one could go back to that time and know what was to come, guess I would have to go to work in an arena :(

Well injector you can go on the last 94xx on the coal road with any driver you like and make a dash to assist a train on the up road at Flax Bourton.

:D Well injector you are on the ball but make the tea before we go.
But serious now, it was a good time in our working life and the memories will last for sometime yet.You may remember Alec Jones he was my mate in the passenger relief link when I came back to Bath Rd in 1954 after the army bit. He has just passed away lately. It is a shame that some of the railway lovers missed what we had but then we can travel on the line . 8)

I thought you were making the tea while I did the smoke box and sweep off the front garden :P

Yes they were very good times when you came back from the army I had just started at West Depot as an inspector's Lad booking in the transfers etc. Put in a transfer to loco in 6 months more my thing.
Did you see the picture of West Depot I got Pete to put on the site, not much left of it now but the buildings are still there, don't know about the down side only had time to take the one picture.
My inspector's name was Rubin Lewis you may have meet him bit of a stickler for discipline but OK when you got to know him.
went to work one night without a tie, never heard the end of it
Much better on the footplate

Sorry to hear Alec passed away, you may have known my Father in law Fred Vowels he was at Bath Rd and the Marsh was Engine controler at BTM when he retired Passed away 1977
