71000 The Duke of Gloucester this weeked

Post by mow »

UK Steam had some information on Friday's light engine move for 71000 Duke of Gloucester - c. 12.33 at Severn Tunnel Junction, Filton Abbey Wood 12.48 and Barton Hill 13.00.

I gather that the DoG is taking a tour out from Newport, does anyone know when there is a light engine move or move with coaching stock from Bristol to Newport? It should leave Newport at 8.54 am on Saturday.

The Devonian now leaves from Temple Meads not Westbury.

There is a light engine move on Tuesday listed on UK Steam.

Went over to Cattybrook this lunchtime and photographed 71000 for the first time. I'm not sure if I have ever seen this loco running, unless it was in Glasgow many years ago. I have uploaded one of the pictures - unedited. It was very, very quiet as it moved up the gradient to the Patchway Tunnels, with a great smell of oil and steam.

Must have 'overlooked' the move on Sat morning. It is early, but if the forecast is good...

I got to a bridge at Lockleaze just in time to see it coming, but managed to stick my camera into 'super-macro' mode while getting it out my bag! To say the photo is blurry is a vast understatement!

I did get a shot of it going away, don't know if it's worth posting though.

Rich I liked those shots at FAW, I went to Cattybrook. Pete sorry to hear about the problems with the camera. I managed to forget to check the settings at Temple Meads recently, and ended up with a blur. My shots are here.

Is this an empty steel working?

Yep, that's the return Bristol Steel trip. Apparently the Duke ran into the steel terminal before reversing into Temple Meads. Nice way of getting her facing the right way for the special.

Top stuff!

I toyed with the idea of going to my usual haunt of Pilning, but thought Friday + Its a Bank Holiday Weekend + Motorway = No Go!

Sorry to hear about the pics Pete

Rich, on which setting do you save files? Jpeg, fine Jpeg or RAW. They look very clear shots to me. How are you linking them to this site?

Am almost tempted to photograph the run to Newport tomorrow...

The files are saved in JPEG Fine as they come off the camera.

They are published up on www.flickr.com and then you can link them into a web page from flickr as you would with say Imageshack.

I'm getting confused now! I have had a busy day in work

So which one is the run tomorrow, is it 71000 or 6024? I thought 71000 was Monday and 6024 Sunday?

If its tomorrow I'm defo going to hunt it down!

71000 leaves Bristol BH at 6.37am tomorrow morning to get to Newport for the tour to Carmarthen (times on link above). Its down as 5Z55 so should be the ECS.

Looking at the times again tomorrows tour originates from Birmingham, therefore the run from Bristol to Newport in the morning is an E+C and not an ECS?

Looks like it could be...

So when it gets to back to Newport this eve, what time/day is it heading back to Bristol for the run on Monday from BTM? I guess that would be another E+C move?
