From the Bristol Evening Post
Residents have welcomed news that work is to be scaled down on a railway embankment in Yate. People living in Westerleigh Road were told that work to clear vegetation from a railway embankment would require 1,000 lorry loads of material.
Now they have been told that only 300 lorry loads will be needed.
The ú9 million project is needed to stabilise the bank. At present trains are forced to slow down on the stretch of track in case the bank should collapse.
Local councillor Paul Hulbert said: "We were originally told that there would be a lot more lorry movements.
"Three hundred lorries over four weeks is 15 a day, or two per hour.
"But people living in the Rodborough area are still concerned about the traffic impact - it will be the suppliers that decide when these lorries arrive, rather than Network Rail's contractors.
"It will need careful management to make sure that lorries aren't queuing to get into the site."
Residents also fear that very heavily loaded lorries could cause drains to collapse.
Earlier this month Network Rail came under fire from residents when it claimed they would not be able to understand the plans.
Parish councillors claimed they had written to the rail operator asking for it to provide every resident in the area with exact details of the plans.
Network Rail replied that this was not possible because residents would not be able to interpret the plans and they did not want to confuse the message being sent.
