Severn Beach line to get extra trains

Post by DaveHarries »

Hi all,

My first post to the group here so sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Campaigners pressing First Great Western for a 30-minute frequency between Bristol Temple Meads and Avonmouth have won a victory with the news that Bristol City Council will reinstate the ú140,000 subsidy taken off back in 2005) between Winter 2007 and Spring 2008 and will provide FGW with an extra ú450,000 allocated for a three-year trial period.

My Dad recalls seeing trains cross at Sea Mills (near where I live) back in the 1970s before the line was singled and I wonder if this will become a familliar site once again?

Well done to all involved with the campaign.

Thank god for that! Weren't they thinking at one stage of turning it into some awful bus/hybrid service?

In the 70's they would have been crossing at Clifton Down. Sea Mills was singled back in 1970 and from memory no trains crossed there even before that.

There are a few shots of Sea Mills in the days just after singling on my fotopic site which might be of interest to your dad.
