Thursday 17 August 2006 - 'The Sunny Seaside Spitfire' to Eastbourne
Departing from: Bristol Temple Meads, Keynsham, Bath Spa, Chippenham, Swindon, Didcot, Reading, Maidenhead & Clapham Jct.
We have been fortunate in extending the Standard Class seating on this train. This allows us to offer this class now at just ú55 return from Bristol and stations to Maidenhead. The Standard fare from London is ú39 per head.
This is a very special train offering a day out not to be missed as we travel to the biggest airshow on the south coast, which this year is expected to include displays on selected days by the æRAF Red ArrowsÆ, the æBattle of Britain Memorial flightÆ, æFalcons freefall parachute teamÆ and many, many more international aircraft. If that is not enough our train will be steam hauled, most appropriately, by ex - Southern Railway Battle of Britain Pacific æTangmereÆ.
Our journey commences diesel hauled to London, where at Battersea æTangmereÆ will be awaiting our arrival and with a full head of steam we make our way out of the suburbs and onto the Brighton line for a fast run past Gatwick Airport and towards the Sussex Downs passing Lewes prior to our arrival in Eastbourne, where around four hours will be available at your leisure to view the spectacle of æAirbourne 2006Æ. Held to be one of the sunniest resorts in England, Eastbourne owes much to the Victorians who laid out many beautiful parks and gardens and built the pier. This elegant town has many charms awaiting your discovery.
Our return in the late afternoon will be diesel hauled for the short journey along the spectacular coast to Hastings, where æTangmereÆ will once again take charge as we travel through the beautiful Sussex Weald passing Battle and Tonbridge. On arrival at Battersea we say farewell to our gallant steam traction as we return homeward behind a more modern locomotive.
