Class 56 & 58s

Post by madhattie »

This has just been posted by John Turner on the UK Rail Yahoo group. Just a rumour, but very, very interesting times ahead if it turns out to be correct...

'It's being alleged that Immingham TMD is currently working on EWS class 56 locos with a view to them being reinstated to traffic in the UK to replace a
significant number of class 66s which are to move to EWS's French operation. Some class 58s are also likely to receive attention.

The suggestion is that as many as forty class 56s and 58s may see re-use in the UK.

There are also rumours around of the return of some of the French based 56s and 58s (on wnxx forum) for active use in the UK.

Hopefully there is some truth behind these stories but I'm not sure why EWS would not just order a few more sheds......

The only thing I can think of is that the shed production line is well booked up and the 56/58 solution is an interim solution.
