At this moment I'm awaiting an email from Heritage to see if they do child fares on the mini-tour to Exeter. I'm assuming they don't, but thought I'd check. Once I hear from them I'll know how many seats I'm booking and will let everyone know so that they can book if they want to come along.

Christmas Meet

Post by jules »

If you don't fancy Temple Meads then perhaps we could meet at Jules pub? (if he'll have us!)
Of course you'd all be welcome! And I am right nearby Stapleton Road Station, so we could combine a trip on the Beach line first with a few beers afterwards.

I can't offer food at the pub, but Bristol's best kebabery is just accross the road! Got four top real ales on tap at all times too.

How about a Saturday afternoon/evening, when all trains run to the beach? I can take one Saturday off from the WSR at least, so long as it isn't Sat 10th as that is the DEPG Xmas Party at Williton.

For what it's worth I think this is the best idea so far.

Just to add something to it, what about a meet at Temple Meads in the morning for a coffee (or at the Engineers opposite the station for breakfast - if they still do them and if they open on Saturday's!) so that anyone with other comitments on the day can head off afterwards if they need to.

Those left can head off to Seven Beach, via Jules pub (?) and then meet back there during the afternoon.

Something in it for everyone - tea and a chat, a quick tour and a few beers. Obviously anyone who's gone off for the day, (say to Newport!), can meet up on their way home for a swift half.

MARVELLOUS!!

How about 10th December?

Post by jules »

If we have our Christmas meet on 10th December, we could all go to the FOSBR (Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways) meeting at Temple Meads in the afternoon. Meeting starts at 5.40pm (to coincide with incoming SB train and ends in time for 7.31pm train back. After meeting, we could come back to The Chelsea for beers.

I might recruit some new members for FOSBR - it's a great organisation that fights for rail in Bristol and it's only ú3.00 to join up for the year :D The December meeting is billed as follows:
Seasonal celebration of journeys on the railway of dreams ands dreamers :- www.ianmarchant.com ASLEF & RMT

It should be a good talk and what could be more seasonal? So, meet TM early afternoon for lunch/coffee, out and back to the Beach and the meeting then some good beer in the evening?

What do we all reckon? Sat Dec 10th?

Eeeek! Stapleton Road is perhaps not a good place to hang around at night with a camera...

Getting the exposure right would be the least of your problems at night at Stapleton Road!

May be worth remembering that 10 Dec is supposed to be the last day of 37s on the Rhymney trains - I don't know when the last one is, but it may be worth popping over to Cardiff after the FoSBR meeting - the beer's quite good over there anyway!

Alternatively, spend a morning over in Wales for 37 bashing, then back to BTM for FoSBR meeting, and drinks in Bristol afterwards?

I should have said:

back to BTM in time for trip to Severn Beach, then FoSBR meeting followed by the pub (Jules'). Should be able to fit it all in if you have the whole day off, but can easily split up the day's activity so that you can either do the whole day, join early afternoon for SB trip or evening for FoSBR meeting and drinks.

Sorry, it's me again!

Class 37 keenies (like yours truly) can get over to Cardiff on 07.18 ex BTM
for 08.29 arrival at Cardiff and catch 08.59 to Rhymney,
10.15 Rhymney to Cardiff, arrive Cardiff 11.17;
leave Cardiff 11.30 and
BTM arrive 12.22 in time for 12.35 or (more leisurely schedule which allows for lunch) 13.22 to SB.

I offer no guarantees of having read timetables correctly or 37 haulage to Rhymney, but could be worth a try!

Looking forward to meeting people on 10 December.

Blimey! I'm exhausted just reading that little lot! :D

I thought the 37s ended on the Rhymney the weekend previous? They're having the special day on Sunday the 4th?

Anyway... disaster time for me. I can't make the daytime on the 10th. I can come along to the nightime stuff but nowt during the day, I'm working

The only Saturday I'm free in December is on the 3rd! Anyone fancy doing the Severn Beach Bash on the 3rd, and then the nightime stuff on the 10th?

(is this getting complicated or what... )

I should have said, if everyone wants to stick to Plan A., everything on the 10th, that's fine by me, and I'll just see you all after I've finished work 8)
