Motala GF

Post by Geoffers »

Yesterday I visited Swanage and caught the occasional glimpse of Oliver Cromwell & Tangmere in between some heavy downpours!

I know the trains arrived via the main line through Wareham and the Worgret Junction branch line off it that goes to Corfe Castle etc., but exactly what and where is this "Motala GF" that I see referenced everywhere?

Thanks for any explanations.

From memory its the grey concrete panelled bridge you go over just before you get to the Park and Ride roundabout at Norden.

Its also featured in a YouTube clip...I'll be back!

There are two opposing trap-points at Motala, to protect Network Rail and the Swanage Railway from each other. Both the NR Worgret - Motala train staff and the SRly train staff (? for the Corfe - Norden section ?) are required in order to unlock the GF and close both traps.
