As someone who has over half a century of involvement with Temple Meads from spotter to manager, I'd really like to see a decent documentary. Sadly, some of my negative sentiments towards current operations might not go down well with the present hierarchy. Even so, I would love to contribute.

Well, tgm, we'll do our best and then hold you to your kind offer.

I believe that 1st Take made something about BTM with some decent archive, but I've not seen it.

I think I have seen that one but can't remember if it is in my not inconsiderable library or whether I borrowed it.

I will be an ex-employee in a few months as retirement looms ever closer. What I am still trying to squeeze out of the hierarchy is their attitude to the publishing of memoirs, either of the current regime or earlier eras (BR!) and whether it is for personal gain or not. I do sail a bit close to the wind with risky comments on a different forum where my anonymity is a bit more 'protected'.

thoughts about btm

Post by oldchapie »

that makes two of us who would agree of the operation of btm for 4 years passenger shunting on east end pilot and the west end at that time the station was how a station should be trains of all types coming and going all day and night that is my memory of the station.

They still come and go all through the night after we've closed the front doors to the great British public. Lots of dmu's, HST's and Voyagers going on and off the Marsh and Barton Hill; big engineers trains rattling through and an increase in Freightliner traffic in the past year or so; the last Padd - Cardiff HST which comes back empty a few hours later to stable; the up and down 'Beds' when they aren't diverted via Westbury. Never a dull moment really.

Still it's not the same as having a pannier or 08 trundling around the place with couplings and buffers clanking away....big sigh!
