Passenger service to Portishead

A lot of talk of it happening a while back with petitions and track clearing anybody know if it is going ahead? Surely with the track relayed to portbury dock it wouldnt cost that much for the extra mile to a new station at portishead.

The Portishead Railway Group is actively campaigning for the reopening. Only 3 miles of (still existing) track needs to be re-instated, but at present neither DfT nor North Somerset council seem to want to take responibility.

Maybe north somerset council are happy to take the developers money and not wish to spend it on a rail link . Doubt the habitual complainer at pill would be happy with even more trains passing his house .

It is no good involving North Somerset Council they dont know where Portishead is. Any where beyond the M5 at WORLE for investment is out of the question they can only spend money on sand and there is none at Portishead so I am sorry no trains to Bristol this year or the next until we get a council that is aware that there is life beyond Weston. one day may be it will happen!

What I find so irritating with Councils and Government when it comes to spending on rail links is their failure to recognise a winner when they see one.

Back in steam days a service from Portishead to Bristol calling at some seven stations would do the journey in 30 minutes. Take modern sprinters, fewer stops and you could be looking at a journey time of 20 minutes.

There might be the odd complainant living near the railway at Pill, but when the environmental needs are so great, the rail development must go ahead. I just cannot see how this line would not be a success.
