Working my way through Trains Illustrated, October 1959. :D

The first observation of an N.B. Loco. Co. "Warship" on the "Bristolian" since its haulage was dieselised was recorded on August 21. when No. D601 had charge of the down train. The down train is still worked by Old Oak Common crews and the up by Bristol men, as in the days of steam.

The W.R. 2-10-Os graduated to named train working in August, for an observer at Newton Abbot on August 8 reported No. 92206 (83D) on the up "Mayflower"; another 2-10-0 on notable work was No. 92222 (83D) in charge of the 10.5 a.m. Penzance-Manchester, which was booked as a through engine working from Plymouth to Shrewsbury. Among other 2-10-0 workings noted by our correspondent that day were Nos. 92221 (83D) on the 12.5 p.m. Paddington-Plymouth and 92230 (83D) on the 1.25 p.m. Paddington-Kingswear. The class was again seen on London-South Wales trains in August; on August 15 No. 92248 brought into Paddington the 9.50 a.m. arrival, returning with the 11.35 a.m. relief to South Wales, and on the following Saturday No. 92239 (81 A) headed the 11.50 a.m. extra to South Wales.

A new addition to the variety at Barrow Road shed, Bristol, on August 23 was a Northwich "J39" 0-6-0, No. 64930. It is reported to have travelled through from some point on the L.M.R. with an overnight fitted freight originating at Carlisle and on the Sunday morning was booked to work the 8.50 a.m. freight out of Bristol to Birmingham on Monday; however, a correspondent saw No. 64930 leaving Barrow Road for the Gloucester
direction at about 4.35 on the Sunday after- noon and it was later seen bringing an unidentified passenger train for Derby into Birmingham (New Street). Another Class "7" 4-6-0 visit to Bristol was recorded on August Bank Holiday weekend, No. 45525 (8A) being seen at Yate on the 8.16 Bournemouth-Liverpool; -Patriot" 4-6-0 No. 45501 (5A) was in Weston-
Super-Mare on August 9, probably on a Sunnday excursion from the Midlands.
