Just returned from Nailsea/Backwell station to see the King "flying".
6024 did not disappoint "motoring "through 20 minutes early!
Must have been going well as a voyager that should have been through before the King came through 3 or 4 minutes later and that was not standing still!
Long live the King, roll on next Sunday.

The King certainly moved well this evening, plenty of noise and smut.

Plenty of people out and about with cameras at stations and vantage points. Great day out, I enjoyed it.

6024 again deputises for Tangmere, after last Saturdays superb performance its hard to see how the King can better it!
6024 is now due to be in charge of 8 out of 10 Torbay trips this summer.

When I was booked on the King in the main we had good trips and made Pete Waterman a very happy man several trips up the Wellington bank each time trying to beat the previous times and on one occasion a very high speed through Yatton can"t tell you how high but?.

oh they were the days what a finish to a career!

Another superb run by the "Premier" mainline King!
Only managed to get into BTM a couple of minutes early on this ocassion due to being slowed at Dawlish and having to wait at Tiverton to allow a train to pass.
From Taunton to WSM mile after mile at 75mph and again through Nailsea and Flax Bourton 70mph, not bad for a machine from 1927!
Its off to Yeovil for the King this weekend and a well earned break until Sunday weeks Torbay trip.

60009 now not able to run so its down to the KING to come to the rescue yet again!
Saturdays trip will not run as the King has a prior engagement to Yeovil.
6024 will run on Sunday, with a Diesel standing by in case of Hot weather!
If its ok the diesel will follow as last weekends trip!

What a Day!
Lucky enough to be behind the KING!!!!
If theres a better loco out there I will take some con vincing.
A good run down only spoiled by a point problem around Newton Abbot.
What a trip back, my best ever around the sea walls and a very fast time Newton Abbot to Exeter.
No hold ups thanks to all at Network Rail and a fantastic run from Taunton to BTM at speeds of 75mph only curtailed by the WSM stop.
35 MINUTES EARLY INTO BTM!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to all involved with the KING!!!!

Not lucky enough to be behind the KING today but passed through Nailsea and Backwell 35 minutes early again tonight!!!
Although a very generous timetable is allowed for you have still got to take your hat off to the KING and his support crew, First Great Western and the rest must be "green" with envy!

Who could not be impressed with a loco originally built in 1927 that continually gives reliable running with heavy loads and over routes with plenty of "steep" gradients to test the "machine"!
Granted its superbly maintained by the best support team without doubt of any main line loco, but the 6024 society never shuns any work offered them for 6024 and is a testament to their skills and enthusiasm and to top the lot they are all VOLUNTEERS!

It may not be the fastest locomotive in the world but it does what it was designed for all those years ago and I endorse what has been said .When I worked on it as the loco inspector it was mostly a success each time ,there was a hiccup at Taunton when we were going to have an attempt to see how quick we could reach the summit at Whiteball we built up the fire to get the maximum steam out of the boiler and boy were we ready for the off on the mark maximum boiler pressure and what happens we have to wait for late comers who left the train, so we have a boiler busting situation blowing the water out of the boiler instead of using it to charge up the hill? When we finally got going it was due to the skill of the driver that we went anywhere any how we did not break any records going up But down the other side WOW! long live the king.! May TOM and GRAHAM remember that trip.

A double dose of the KING this weekend so no excuses for not getting out for some lineside action!
An extra coach is being added this weekend to cope with demand but hopefully 6024 will make light work of the extra load.
Popped down to Barton Hill today and saw the KING simmering nicely for tomorrows first run.
