Gents.
A friend of mine has asked me whats going on at Yatton station?
Apparently x crossovers and 2 sidings have been installed?
Im sure someone out there can tell me the answer.

Tracks? I thought ( hoped ) they were building a Sustrans path on the old Clevedon line. I'd be interested too.

Erm, Yatton?! No work involving Network Rail, is there a preserved railway down there now then? The only place where track laying has been going on is Fairwater Yard, just west of Taunton.

Did he tell you this on the 1st of April?

The sidings in question must be the Up and Down loops now regularly used for passenger trains. There is also an emergency crossover worked by a single lever ground frame. As far as I am aware these have all been in situ since the line was re-signalled in the early 1970's.

Network Rail have been using Yatton as a base for engineering works in the region. I believe they've also replaced most of the trackwork at Yatton itself of late, including the points to the loops and the crossover.

I did take a photo, but it's got a rather large sun-spot on it so wasn't going to use it. (this is a cropped version with most of the spot chopped out)

Ah of course! New pointwork is constructed to as near the site as possible then moved into location either along side the old fittings or as a direct replacement. Like I said I wasn't aware of any new sidings going in... though I certainly wouldn't mind!

Yatton box last day of operation.

Following on from my recent question "posed" by a friend of mine, I have been under further "pressure" from him regarding answers given etc etc.
I have just returned from having a look myself and the only thing that catches my eye are the two passing loops approx. 400M to the west of the station.
These appear to have been relaid, new ballast etc and are probably what he has seen.
Any further comments?

Yes, various bits of the line have recently been renewed in the Yatton and Nailsea areas, including the crossover and passing loops at Yatton.

The assembled point work was laying on the ground at Yatton for several weeks before installation during the weekend positions in March/April this year. Nothing was added or taken away û just a like for like renewal.
