I have Bristol Zoo onto me asking for any technical information or drawings relating to Clifton Down Tunnel.
I've had a quick look through all my books and don't have anything.
Can you all -please- have a look through your own collections, and if you have anything at all related to the Clifton Down Tunnel, get back to me with a title, page number etc.
Apparently this is quite urgent!

I had an email from them as well. Pointed them in your direction and to NRM.
Presumably they have just figured out where all the animals have been going for all these years

Something I have occasionally wondered, and this seems a good opportunity to mention it:
On the opposite side of the road to the main zoo entrance, there is a locked door, apparently giving access to an underground passageway beneath the Downs. Does this lead down to the tunnel? If not, where does it go?

That goes down (a long way!) to the Northern Storm Water Interceptor drain.

Thanks. Most impressive!
By the way, did you receive those pictures of the shipyard that I sent?

Yes I did, thankyou
I did send you an email letting you know they'd arrived! I assume you didn't get it

I don't think I received it, but it's possible I lost it in the chaos of moving offices. My address is unchanged since then, by the way.

The only alternative access to the tunnel is from the caged Portway cliff face cave which leads into the tunnel via a modified workman's alcove...........so I've been told.

There was an entrance from the 'Engineers House' on Apsley Road, (the big house on the corner of Pembroke Road and Apsley Road) The entrance was via a lift, in the corner of the big carpark; over the lift shaft a garage was built in the 1970s and subsiquently (in 2002) a row of town houses has now been built.
