Hi all, looking for comment and advice.

I'm doing a total colour site conversion for the Somerset & Cornwall Light Infantry and British Light Infantry Regiments websites.

One of the images is a Castle Class loco and it's the SLI one.

Basically, have I got the colours right... probably not.

The sky looks awful...in the B&W it is a monotone shade of light grey, so such a strong colour blue fading to grey is never going to look right.

The loco is a bit odd too...it looks more like metallic khaki than the deep, dark shade of BR Brunswick Green. Also, the cylinder cladding would have been green, and don't forget the lining!

Your right about the sky, I think it needs toning done a tad. I'll try and make the green daker.

Some images work a treat and some a real battle.

I think the sky looks alright. I think it gives the photo an air of 'picture postcard' rather than trying to convince anyone that it was originally in colour.

Of course, whether you like that depends on the effect you're trying to achieve!

I'd agree about the green though, needs to be darker. Looks more like an LNER engine that GWR at the mo.

Most of the pics at that url are great! There's one there , the first of the 'SCLI Gibraltar' photos, which if I didn't know better I would swear was my dad! (on the left) He was in Africa though. Out of all those photos, the only thing I thought looked odd was the green bottles and yellow lager on another SCLI Gibraltar pic. Bit too bright to me.

Great stuff though! Must be very time consuming

Hi, this is my first post, although I have looked at the forum before (great site by the way).

I like the Castle picture so far, and do agree that the green needs darkening to make it correct.

However, before you change it, I feel I need to correct James - the cylinder cladding is black (although technically there should be some orange lining too).

For reference the vintage trains website has a similar photo of Clun Castle in BR livery ( http://www.vintagetrains.co.uk/images/7 ... ley_dg.jpg)

Oops, so it is! Something didn't look right, and I assumed it was the colour. Maybe it was just the wrong shade of black

The green bottles and lager came up very bright.. True euro fizz The sailor looks completely pissed.

and as a complete side issue the SCLI were in the film Lawrence of Arabia partly filmed in Seville.


SCLI chaps in colour only.
