During a recent visit to Blaise castle I was somewhat disappointed to see that the old abandoned railway that was buried in the undergrowth near the house has been cleared away.

Anyone know if any of it has been rescued? Or has the scrapman had the lot?

I had no idea it existed. Can anyone provide some details of its history?

Yes sadly the railway has been abandoned for a good 3 years at least now. I'll be surprised if it's ever rebuilt again. I remember riding on it back in the late 70's when I was a kiddie. I remember it being very popular back then.
The railway was opened in 1974, and was just 300 metres in length.

i too remember riding this when i was young, the station was near the main car park, the line then went over a level crossing, behind the playground, through a tunnel then ther train reversed back to the station,
i can remember the driver giving me a free ride because it was my 8th birthday, that was ten years ago or so now i think that was one of the last times i went to blaise castle, i now live in wales and don't get to bristol often.

Definately won't be rebuilt... it's been completely cleared! There seems to be a lot of renovation work going on at that part of the estate and all the old, erm... stables? are being rebuilt.
I'd always meant to write to the council and find out the ownership of the bits that were left in the hope that they'd let me have it. Would have looked nice in my back garden

I could have cleared the site for them at no cost. Too late now though... argh...

Yes it is a great site, with great people. I really like the railway in and around the bristol area.
I too am pleased there are people of all ages on here, especially some my own age too.
I have some family pics somewhere of the blasie railway from the mid 1990's. If i can find them then i will scan them in and upload them.
Just got to search the house for them.
