The Bristol Railway Archive

Hi all,

If you've enjoyed looking at the photos on the website, and have photos of the railways in and around Bristol gathering dust in the attic or hidden away in a drawer somewhere, then please consider sending them to me so that other people can see them.

Digital images can be received via email. I'm on broadband so there's no problem with image size.

Prints can be sent to me via post (email me for the postal) and I'll happily scan them and get them online, and post them back to you and reimburse your postage costs etc.

The best pages on the website are those that show 'before and after' scenes. I'm all out of my own 'before' shots (unless some missing photos ever turn up!) so rely totally on contributions from others.

Don't worry about quality. Atmosphere works far better on the web than anything else, and I don't need the quality of image as would be needed for print.

Budding authors might like to contribute something for the Memories section of the website? This is a very well read section of the website and anything anyone contributes is sure of a large audience.

Finally, a big thankyou to all those who have contributed so far, your photos are much appreciated and have really made the website (in my opinion) something quite special.

Hi.
A while ago I decided to gather as much information as possible on the two locations where my father had been employed as a signalman.
The first was Barrow Road and the second was Chipping Sodbury.

The information on Chipping Sodbury dates from the line's inception and was gathered by a local historian. I have made copies of the original information that was mounted on display boards.
Please let me know if these photos would be worth including on the website.

(Just about to have my tea!) But sounds great. I'm working on a 'documents' section of the website which will cover this kind of area more comprehensively.

Sorry if the enquiry looked a little impatient but I'm no expert with forums,so it was a 'belt and braces' post and email.
The colour copies are quite large and I'm reluctant to cut them so we'll need to consider the best way to scan them.They are liberally adorned with photos,drawings and text.

Durley Hill is fine just the way it is. Usually the website goes like this; photo pointing towards Bristol, photo pointing away from Bristol, photo of object. Now, at Durley HIll I was blessed with rather fab photos of the Duke hammering under the bridge. If I followed the normal website tradition I would have had to stick the photo of the train going away from the bridge before the one of it arriving! Yeuk! So the photo sequence is: The view at arrival at bridge (or at least, from the direction I arrived at it when I visited it!), a look around the bridge, and then the train. Then a couple of boundary fence pics which I like, and you like, but really only serve to fill up my webspace

John, no worries about your 'impatient' enquiry, the reason I said I was having my tea was simply because I noticed you were online at the same time as I was and therefore wanted to respond as quickly as I could rather than formulating a better response later. So, I was basically typing away at a hundred miles an hour while bouncing my little 'un on my knee and fending off requests to put the CBeebies website on. Your email never arrived until much later, but then, I've been having dreadful problems with email for about a month now, so that's not unusual.

Anyway, I shall write to you properly tomorrow and clarify what it is we're talking about.

I may be able to send some archive photographs from the Lens Collection when I have scanned them - I assume there is no "browse" option, otherwise I could send them directly.
