More than 30 volunteers from rail operators First Great Western are to form part of a national rail care team to help survivors of major accidents.
The Rail Care Team will be trained to give hands-on, practical help such as organising transport, accommodation, and clothing following an incident.
A FGW spokeswoman said members would work in a "difficult environment" but would help make victims' lives easier.
The care team could be mobilised in the event of any UK train accident.
