West Somerset Excursion Saturday 24th September 2005
Join the fight against Meningitis and septicaemia
Join us for this superb journey through to Minehead on the Somerset Coast, journeying over the private West Somerset Railway. Be there for the grand locomotive naming ceremony at BristolÆs Temple Meads station.
As the climax of the Meningitis Awareness Week, this very special excursion offers you the opportunity to enjoy a grand day out - whilst raising money for the Foundation.
After picking-up passengers from stations in the West Midlands, this special train will head south into Severnside, calling at stations through to Bristol Temple Meads, where the train will pause for a few minutes whilst one of the locomotives is named and dedicated to the charity. Restarting we head across Somerset, past Weston-super-Mare and out onto the Levels, with Glastonbury Tor visible (weather permitting!) before Taunton, where we make a last stop before passing onto the preserved West Somerset Railway. The scenery is outstanding as we climb between the Brendon Hills and the Quantocks before coming out onto the shores of the Severn Estuary near the small port of Watchet. After another foray inland, we return to the coast at Blue Anchor, never being far from the shore to the end of the line at MINEHEAD. There is plenty to see and do in Minehead, and you also have the opportunity to travel on the steam-hauled trains of the West Somerset Railway - at half the normal fare on production of your Special Train pass. Information about this popular resort will be provided on the day.
