VXC HST's

Post by Mitch »

Virgin Cross Country today began using HST's again for services to the west of England. GNER are providing two sets for the 10.42 and 11.42 Paignton-Newcastles, while two former Virgin sets are working the Newquay services. Unfortunately things didn't go too well: one of the GNER sets was stopped en-route with reports of smoke coming from under the train, and was subsequently 30 minutes late after inspection. The 15.22 Newquay - Manchester fared less well: both power cars (43070 and 43080) gave up at Lostwithiel and the train had to be rescued by 57604 sent light from Laira.
I'm coming down to Bristol on Tuesday for an HST refresher at St. Phillips Marsh, but after today's performance I'd rather not ......
Cheers,
Mitch
