March is a good month for spotting ....

Lots of local opportunities to see Tornado, Tangmere, Braunton, etc, this month, assuming no cancellations.

This Saturday Tornado is travelling from London to PLymouth via Taunton. The following Wednesday we have 35028 Clan Line from London to Bath and Bristol. Saturday 16th Tornado again, this time Southend to Bristol, and the same day Tangmere and possibly Black 5 44932 travels from London to Plymouth returning via BTM - I'm a little confused about this trip.

Looks like Tornado again on 21st, carrying Cathedrals Express from Peterborough to Bristol.

There's also some fairly local ones running to the Worcester area.

I think we can safely say the new season is upon us!

34067 'Tangmere' hauls the train from Euston-Newbury-Exeter. 34067 is joined by Black '5' 44932 for the trek over the Devon banks (Exeter-Plymouth and return). 44932 detaches at Exeter. 34067 continues solo to Bristol. <BJ>

Many thanks for the helpful explanation. I might try and catch that but tomorrow I'm off to Dawlish, hopefully in the dry, to see Tornado for the first time this year.

Another steam charter will run on 23rd March. It's the 'Double Headed Hallage' and passes through Bristol Parkway. For timings see separate topic.

An update from 'uksteam'. The Black '5' is now no.45407 and will join the train at Taunton.

(That makes more sense as the train will now be be double-headed to Whiteball summit.) <BJ>

Passing by my flat at about 20.25 - a little too dark for a photo by then, unless I walk down to the former site of Ashley Down Station - which I might, should it not be raining!

Considering the conditions, that's an excellent photo. I was much further away, up Pennyquick, so my photos were poor, but I could see somebody in the field, with possibly a blue and white umbrella - perhaps you?

I took a video at Keynsham Station on its return which came out far better, though it continued to rain!

Obviously not, since I now see the same person in one of *your* photos!
