Hi everyone. I'm a new member and sorry to admit, not a railway enthusiast by any degree, but I am very interested in Redcliffe Tunnel as I now live within view of it. I have a particular interest in tracing an original copy of the photo shown at the top of this following link, and was hoping another member could help.

I can email a larger image to anyone interested if they let me know.
Thanks

Thanks for your response to horace madhattie - I did check the link after I'd posted and realised it needed the tail knocking off, but hoped readers would figure that one out. Thanks for being interested horace - hope you can help.

I can't remember which one, but that photo was published in a book in the 1960s? Possibly one of the Reece Winstone "Bristol in the 19xxs" series.
I've definitely seen it published.

It's not in any of the books I have covering the railways of Bristol. I have definitely seen it before and my hunch would be to refer to an article in 'Railway Bylines' maybe up to 5 years ago which covered the railways around Canons Marsh and the docks area. Anyone have a copy? One of the Reece Winstone volumes is very likely as Jules suggests or it could have been in the 'Bristol Times' supplement of the Evening Post. I believe the large building on the right is Bristol General Hospital.

According to the Irwell Press website the article I was thinking of was in Railway Bylines volume 13 (2007-2008). Not sure if I still have a copy.

The photo is featured in the original version of `Rail Centres-Bristol` by Colin Maggs, published by Ian Allan in 1981. Photo is credited to the Port of Bristol Authority.
A view taken from almost the same spot can be found in` Through Countryside & Coalfield` by Mike Vincent, showing Modified Hall 6988 on 4th Jan 1964.

The page as shown in the link given by Hattie attributes the photograph to The Bristol Evening Post circa 1960
