Happy New Year to all, and...

my first proper day of gricing may have been riding to and fro between Yatton and Clevedon on the last day of the branch. As I recall, we stayed on the train for several round trips for the price of one, and - can this be right - a few boys, me included, had a cab ride for one trip. It would be great to hear other memories of that day.

Do you remember the plan to preserve the Clevedon branch?
I recall reading an article cut from the local paper around the time of the closure about the intended project.

We did this subject on here just recently but I spent an hour last night looking for it and couldn't find the thread!

Does anybody else remember it? As I recall, somebody said the idea was scuppered by "the authorities" on account of the fact the M5 was to cross the track bed.

Ah - not as recent as I thought.

Doesn't time fly when you get old ....... ;)

Like I say to anybody who will listen when I'm on Mangotsfield station: "Its not the fact that no train has stopped here for 45 years that makes me feel old - its more the fact I used to catch trains from here before that ...." :)

There was a panier tank no96xx at bath road for a while. One of the persons long since passed away was interested in keeping the branch opened lived in clevedon . he asked me if i would get involved i forget what progressed, but all this time we believe that the shutting of the line was a stitch up was that they did not want to pay for a bridge over the line and as the motor car was more inportant the rest is history.by the way br said that the line paid its cost in full. :(
